Green, or natural burials are a way of caring for our environment and ensuring our impact is minimal. The bodies are not embalmed as chemicals are not welcome in this process. We use natural coffins, made from either banana or pandanus leaves or a shroud made of calico, hemp or felt that biodegrade over time according to the conditions of the soil.
The nearest natural burial ground to Brisbane is Alberton Natural Burial Ground, at Alberton Cemetery, half-way between Brisbane and the Gold Coast. There are no headstones or grave markings, and you find your loved one by GPS! However, a plaque can be attached to a memorial sculpture at the entrance to the burial ground. Trees or other flora are not permitted to be planted on the grave as this will disrupt the natural ecosystem.
This is a positive way to help our environment and we encourage our clients to investigate this option further.
Our cost is $5,550 and excludes cemetery fees.
